Mamboleo
Belgian European Walterweight Boxing Champion Sugar Jackson Osei Bonsu successfully defended his title from Ukraine’s 40 year old Victor Plotnikov in a fully packed Antwerp Sports Palace. Jackson retained his title in a three jury unanimous decision but both fighters gave a high quality and outstanding performance.
Victor Plotnikov is an experienced tactical boxer who’d come to Antwerp with one mission, beat up Sugar Jackson. To have his name stay on the list of champs, Plotnikov had to win. Jackson too, with almost 7000 supporters in the hall, could not afford to let his supporters down and besides, American Boxing Scouts were in the hall, to see if he was good enough for their market. Jackson said he was fighting in the name of his new born baby. He too, had to win even though his mother could not get a travel visa in time to travel from his native Ghana.
Jackson gave tempo to the match right from the first ring of the bell. He chased Victor Plotnikov into the corner and punished him thoroughly before Victor was saved by the bell.
Round two and three were tough but Jackson stayed way ahead of Plotnikov who woke up in round nine to give Sugar Jackson great difficulty by sending his legs wobbling. In round ten, I thought my God, this is it. Victor Plotnikov knew he had already lost on points so he was looking for any opportunity for a knock-out. No, it did not come.
Jackson came back in round eleven, ramming Plotnikov over and over again amid shouts from the crowd. Jackson severely punished his opponent in the last round and got an unanimous victory from the three member jury.
